This verse comes to us from Sis. Tammy A.

1st.John 2:15 Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him.

As we look into the content of this verse, we see the passion of the beloved Apostle John.

As a man, he understood the lure that comes from our surroundings.

When he used the word, “world” he was not talking about the physical earth. He was speaking of the social systems that would compete with anything spiritual.

John understood that even though something might be good within itself, if it replaced God as our priority it would seriously challenge our relationship with God.

John used the word “love” as it pertains to this social system. In our contemporary society today, we have lost the meaning of this much overused word “love”.

In context of the scripture here it implies to cherish something. To treat with loving, protective, affection.

Thus, becoming the focal point of our energies and resources.

When speaking of the “things” in the world, John warns us of the things that will cause us to bow to the evil spirit, driving this world.

We see this same lure offered to Jesus when the devil tempted Him in the wilderness.

Matthew 4:8-9 Again, the devil taketh Him up into an exceeding high mountain, and sheweth him all the kingdoms of the world, and the glory of them; [9] And saith unto him, All these things will I give thee, if thou wilt fall down and worship me.

As far as the last part of this verse, many misunderstand the meaning. “The love of the Father” has nothing to do with God loving us, it has everything to do with our love for Him.

The things of this world will replace God and ultimately cause our faith to shipwreck.

So please hear the heart of this Beloved Apostle!

Let NOTHING compete with God, keep Him first and foremost in every part of our lives.
