Keeping His Commandments!

One Friday evening, on a rare moment when Sister Cole and I had a few moments, we jumped on our Gold Wing and took a ride.

On a particular stretch of highway 75 N. the speed limit is 75 mph.

I set the cruise control on about 78 mph and we headed north. Not very far into our trip a car flew by us going real fast. Not far behind him an 18 wheeler came by so fast it almost felt like it was sucking us under the truck.

I chuckled to myself as I thought about the 75 mph speed limit sign. Laws are lifeless words in some book. They restrain us only when there is power to back them up.

How many of us, even if we're not speeding, will tend to let up on the gas pedal when a police car appears. That's called police power.

Just the mere sight or presence of this police officer will never instill a love for driving 75 mph.

As I thought about this while we were riding on, the Lord spoke to my heart and said, the same is true for My Commandments. The fear of punishment or getting caught may check our actions.

But it will take a stronger force then that to make us want to obey. That power comes only from my personal relationship with Jesus Christ.

1st. John 3:22 And whatsoever we ask, we receive of him, because we keep his commandments, and do those things that are pleasing in his sight.

May we fall so in love with Jesus that with every fiber of our being we wish to please Him. And yes, pleasing Him means we keep His Commandments.

John 14:15 If ye love me, keep my commandments.

May God Bless and His Grace be on All.

In His Service,

Bishop Buddy Cole
